A Weekend With The Wykstras

Image
This weekend one of my mom's sisters and her family of BOYS came to visit. Man, let's just say I'm tiredπŸ˜… It was a whole heck of fun....consisting of hot spring, shooting, Star Wars binge watching, etc.  I LOVE my family! Happy Memorial Day! I'm so thankful for those that have fought in wars in order to protect this country and sacrificed their lives to keep us safe. Its nice to take a moment and pause, and remember those who not only died in war, but family members and friends who have passed before us. Today I remember my Uncle Diego, Grandma Laura, baby cousins Max and Jace, and others I love who have prematurely passed on. πŸ’•

Lemon's & Grapefruit

Image
Today I wrote this poem, inspired by the fruit trees we grew in Arizona. :) It makes me happy to think about them and I remember having a dream recently about those fruit trees. That fresh lemonade was my favorite! LEMONS AND GRAPEFRUIT Thriving out in the Arizona heat Some are pretty, some are scarred Can be a frosty and delicious summer treat Freshly picked, straight out of my yard Mom savored the grapefruit most Grandpa loved his lemons sour and plain I found the bitter fruit gross My favorite was Grandma’s lemonade Those were truly the days I desperately wish to go back to  And although the sun’s always ablaze Happily I’d return to where the fruit grew

I Love the Sun!

Some corresponding poetry :) Sunrise The majestic glowing light Waking the world from the night Vibrant orange and soft pink All hopeful spirits in sync I hold fast to the present This quiet peace most pleasant Though this magic hour won’t last A new day comes, we forget the past Sunset Bone weary, fatigued, and depleted The world's life and brightness fleeted Closely I watch the flaming sky This radiant show of colored light Enchanting, vivid, and golden Healing all that is hurt and broken All life settles without a peep A weary sun’s off to sleep

Today, 10 years ago

Image
May 15th, 2012, this picture was taken. 10 years ago today!  Guess where this pic was taken! (Me: Left) (My brother Britton: Center) (My dad: Right)  My mom took the pic :) For those of you who are wondering where this pic was taken.... At time we lived in Western, New York, meaning that not extremely far away was the Big Apple. You guessed it, we're standing at the World Trade Center memorial (the twin towers) in New York City! Even though I was only 3 & 1/2, I have legit memories of that trip. Later that week we traveled on a ferry to see the Statue of Liberty, we chased pigeons around, ate delicious pizza, and one of those days it rained A LOT. Those were the days :)πŸ’›

More Poetry :)

Image
Definitely not my best work....but I'm trying to let myself relax and be ok with poetry that kinda sucks πŸ˜… The first poem is about Costa Rica and the overall serenity of that little slice of heaven. My ultimate goal was to try and add a lot of figurative language (I didn't get as much as I like, but oh well) Anyways I think this one is fairly decent, especially for writing it in a short amount of time. The second one is about a rock...my LA teacher is responsible for this poem, making us select a rock and write a poem about it. I literally came up with the title like just no, its kind of comical and dumb LOL. Anyways, hopefully it isn't too boring...I'm not a big fan of it because it doesn't necessarily have a consistent meter and stanzas, but I'm not gonna worry about that.  After all, you guys are my friends. At least I hope 🀣  Costa Rica I awake to the sound of birds Singing their gentle, jungle song As crisp and sweet as the forest’s fruit It is here that...

Melancholy

Until I get pictures figured out on this blog, here's a poem that I wrote. This is a poem I wrote just today, and I might need to work on it a bit. It's fairly long, but eventful. There are deep meanings to every line, some that can't necessarily be understood unless the story is explained.  By the way, I'm not depressed, this poem isn't about me, although its based on true events. It's fairly sad and dark, but in the end its about hope and moving forward, the melancholies of life, loving more deeply, faith, and trust.  A Melancholy Medley A life can change another A day can change a life Whether it be joyful or filled with pain That is the sting of pure loves knife Taken suddenly from her sister Was that precious babe she loved  When fate irrationally decided  To take her mother home above It hurt for a while, her heart was on the mend She feared this grief was ...
